In August, 48 SLPS schools received training on trauma awareness from Alive & Well STL, a leader in understanding trauma and creating trauma-informed environments. Thanks to funding from the St. Louis Mental Health Board, 1,500 SLPS staff received training prior to the start of the school year, a significant step in ensuring that all SLPS staff members are aware of the impacts and effects of trauma among students, as well as among staff. 95% of participants felt that the program was valuable, and many hope to engage in concerted efforts to create a more trauma-informed environment in their schools. Additionally, SLPS was the recipient of a significant grant from the U.S. Department of Education to provide embedded trauma therapy at four SLPS schools, as well as in depth coaching to create trauma-informed school cultures at 14 SLPS schools. These two efforts, along with other essential providers and partners, are supporting district-wide efforts to support the emotional wellness of students.
