I am running to serve as a member of the Saint Louis Public Schools Board of Education because I am passionate about addressing the complex issues facing public education in STL. I am an alumnus of SLPS (Visual and Performing Arts High School, class of 1991), father of 11, retired Air Force Officer, and Realtor in the St. Louis area. As a parent of 3 current SLPS students and 5 alumni, I have personally experienced the challenges of IEPs, early bus times, the effects of trauma on school performance, and navigating through the many school choice options. These experiences motivated me to advocate for our students, teachers, and schools by participating in PTO organizations and the district Parent Action Council. This led to service as a parent representative on numerous district level committees, including the State Appointed Board on future governance of SLPS, the COVID Restart Task Force, the school start time committee, the communication committee, and the Consortium Partnership Network Board. Through these experiences I have gained an in-depth understanding of the magnitude and breadth of the challenges facing the board of education and the hard work and creativity needed to address these issues. With my military experience in evaluating systems and my personal experience on district task forces, I am confident that I can help develop plans to make great education accessible to every student in every city school.
