New Family Stability Fund Supports Families and Students
For many families in the SLPS community, the pandemic is hitting hard. Families are coping with COVID-19 diagnoses in their families, job losses, housing uncertainty, and food insecurity. This fall, SLPS Foundation has worked with the Office of Student Services to equip every school with an equitable “Family Stability Fund” to support family needs related to food, employment, utility assistance, and tenant advocacy. Deaconess Foundation has generously provided the seed funding for this work with a $50,000 grant.
School “support teams” have been working harder than ever, doing sidewalk visits to families, offering not only basic needs but also moral boosts. Ms. Michalek, Social Worker at Gateway STEM High School said it best when she shared, “It is wonderful to have these extra funds to help improve stability for our families!”
