SLPS + NONPROFIT PROVIDERS = A WIN FOR STUDENTS AND THE COMMUNITY
In partnership with SLPS’ Office of Institutional Advancement, the SLPS Foundation is working to improve the way nonprofits and SLPS can collaborate. “SLPS benefits from partnerships with over 150 nonprofit service providers. These organizations provide tutoring, counseling, extracurricular leadership opportunities and so much more. We want to make sure they know about SLPS needs and we want all schools to have equal knowledge and access to their services,” notes Danielle Wallis SLPS Foundation Program Director. She has been working with a team from SLPS to convene events throughout the year that expand partnership possibilities. On November 8th, over 60 nonprofit partners came together to learn from other another, connect with district leaders, and make plans for how they can best support students. In close partnership with the SLPS District, the SLPS Foundation is working to build better mechanisms to support partnerships among schools and community agencies, including an interactive database to catalog existing partnerships and connect potential partners. In January 2019, the interactive database will go live, and SLPS will host a nonprofit fair so that SLPS principals can connect with valued resources. It takes a village to raise a child, and this community is stepping up in a big way!
