The SLPS Emergency Response Fund

During this unprecedented time, the SLPS Foundation is grateful to those who have reached out to ask how they can help our students. Our SLPS Emergency Response Fund will address two needs:

Ensuring Food Security

In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, we know that many families will need extra support during these challenging times. One of the most immediate needs is food.  Many of our students rely on school for breakfast, lunch and even backpack dinners.

SLPS has worked with other city schools (charter and independent) and will open food distribution sites at more than 30 schools across the city on Monday, March 23rd. These sites will offer Grab-and-Go meals. The district receives funding from the USDA to support our Free and Reduced Lunch students, but cannot use those funds to offer parents/guardians food.  A contribution from you will help us leverage this service and enable SLPS to offer meals to parents/guardians as well. 100% of your contribution will go to services.

 Academic Resources for Distance Learning

If schools are closed for an extended time, the SLPS Foundation will be working with some SLPS schools to promote equitable access to remote learning. Since many SLPS families don’t have computers and/or WiFi, students are at a greater disadvantage. This need is evolving, and the SLPS Foundation will work with district and school leaders to incubate better access to learning.
