Welcome to Our New Board Leadership

WELCOME TO NEW BOARD LEADERSHIP

SLPS Foundation welcomed a new board chair and vice chairs this year.  After eight years of amazing board leadership, Valerie Bell transitioned to the role of Board Chair Emeritus.  Ms. Tammy Taylor, Managing Partner of Taylored Analytics and longtime SLPS Foundation Board Member will lead the SLPS Foundation for the next three years. She is joined by Vice Chairs, Bob Newmark, Managing Partner at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, and Pete Werner, Nonprofit Consultant.  In addition, the board welcomed four new board members: Errin Braddock, Employment Counsel, Enterprise Holdings Inc., Jomo Castro, Regional Director, External Affairs at AT&T, Geoffrey Ratliff, Financial Advisor, Merrill Lynch and Rachel Seward, Vice President, Enterprise Communications and Philanthropy at MiTek.

As she begins her tenure, Tammy shared a few reflections.

Why Does Education Equity Matter So Much to You?

I have had the opportunity to witness the extreme variances in educational opportunities and realize that those who are disadvantaged, in any way, bear the brunt of those inequities disproportionately. I want to live into what I believe this country was founded upon – equal opportunities for all.

What are you most proud of about the SLPS Foundation?

I am most proud of the foundation’s growth and focus. While there is much work left to be done, we can be proud of our progress. We have become that “critical friend” of the district through fundraising, championing district priorities, and re-establishing donor confidence.

What’s Exciting about the future of SLPS Foundation?

The horizon looks promising for the Foundation. We look to garner more reputational credibility, leverage technology more in donor giving, and seek national opportunities.  We’ve got a top rate board and staff prepared to advocate for the students of St. Louis Public Schools at a time in our region when people need to work together to address the real inequities that still exist for our children.
