Our Context

We know that we can’t have sustainable education programming without a sustainable workforce of educators. Educators serve as our most critical partner in the actualization of the academic achievement and attainment of our youth.

Recent regional and national surveys reveal the lowest job satisfaction ratings for educators ever recorded, with 79% of teachers indicating dissatisfaction in their current professional role, and over 50% of MO teachers considering leaving the profession (The American Federation of Teachers, The MO State Teachers Association). As a result, the academic achievement and attainment of students decreases.

By recruiting, developing, and retaining the impact of effective educators, students can engage and achieve at high levels (American University School of Education).

Talent Capacity

We are committed to supporting the District’s efforts to recruit, develop, retain, and scale the impact of effective educators. Our investments equip SLPS educators with the skills necessary to provide responsive, academically enriching classroom and school experiences that activate student success today and beyond.

  • Talent capacity programming is currently being implemented across the District.

    Programming includes:

    • Ed Tech Teacher Advisory Committee

    • Educator Life Cycle

    • Innovation Grants

    • Principal Re-design Fellowship

    • Teacher Recruitment Fellows

  • Cohort-based program that engages 15-18 of the District’s most promising educators who want to grow beyond their current classroom work, and have articulated a commitment to continue teaching in the St. Louis Public Schools.

  • Two Pre-K-5th grade SLPS schools (Meramec Elementary and Ashland Elementary) who are Consortium Partnership Network (CPN) schools. CPN schools operate with an autonomous governance structure, a school leadership team and strategic partnerships, to enable greater autonomy and flexibility, and strengthen community voice.

  • Workgroup comprised of classroom and school leaders providing guidance on District-wide technology infrastructure-building.

  • Awards select SLPS teachers as candidates for the District’s Educator of the Year award; the finalist then competes on behalf of the District for the MO State Teacher of the Year award.

  • Funding for aspiring school leaders to support collaborative teaching practices, and enhanced student learning opportunities.

  • Cohort-based program empowering veteran school leaders to design new learning initiatives through the practice of distributive leadership in their schools.

  • Cohort-based programming that engages veteran educators in PLC sessions, job-embedded professional development opportunities, and retreats focused on the following competencies: team culture-building; curriculum mapping and writing; data gathering and analysis; instructional coaching, and mentorship.
